Yoga is Universal
The United Nations has declared June 21st the International Yoga Day.
International Day of Yoga Celebration:
Come join us in celebrating the unity of yoga with a practice of yoga asanas. This will be a led practice of asanas which will start out with Surya Namaskar, sun salutations in honour of the Summer Solstice. The practice will end with an extended Savasana or Seated Meditation to one’s capacity. This is a community event which is open to all yoga practicioners. (Donations will be accepted towards development projects like schools and hospitals in the village of Bellur, India, where Mr Iyengar was born)
Words of Geeta Iyengar
“We are all yoga sādhakās and sādhanā is our very breath, our prāna. The United Nations has declared 21st June as the International Yoga Day, which will be celebrated all over the world. For us every day is yoga day. However to respect this special day [the concept of which was suggested by Guruji] in a talk in Bangalore sometime in 2011- 2012, to respect Guruji, we have thought of a special practice programme for this day. Many students from across the world approached me if they could have a special sequence of practice for this day… the (summer) solstice.” – Geeta Iyengar 2015
Come and commemorated the First International Day of Yoga, Summer Solstice, Sunday June 21st from 1-3pm at St Georges Church. Please bring your yoga kit.
